Which HubSpot seats do you actually need?
Last verified September 28, 2026 · Next check October 28, 2026
HubSpot has four paid seat types: Core, Sales, Service and Revenue. View-only seats are free and unlimited. Most people who only read reports and records need a free View-only seat, not a paid one. Sales, Service and Revenue Seats cost $85 to $150 per user a month and are only needed by people who use those hubs' paid features.

Monthly list prices per user on a 12-month commitment. Professional seats cost less when you pay the year upfront; Enterprise has one price. Starter plans use Core Seats at $20 a month each, or $7 paid annually as a limited-time offer for new customers.
Core Seats included with platform-fee plans: Marketing Hub 3 on Professional and 5 on Enterprise; Content Hub 3 and 5; Marketing+ 3 and 5; Data Hub 1 and 1. The Customer Platform includes 6 and 8 seats in total, across seat types.
What each seat type gives you
View-only Seat. Free, and you can add as many as you like. The user can view records, dashboards, customer data and reports, and filter reports. They can't edit records, save reports, manage tools or log emails. This covers most executives, finance and anyone who only needs to see the numbers.
Core Seat. The standard paid seat. It gives access to the core features of every hub you've bought. On Starter plans, Core Seats are how you access Sales Hub and Service Hub features.
Sales Seat and Service Seat. Needed only on Sales Hub or Service Hub Professional and Enterprise. They include Core Seat access plus all the features of those editions, so the user doesn't need a separate Core Seat. Paid Sales Hub and Service Hub plans are priced per seat, so the seat is most of what you pay for.
Revenue Seat. Gives access to all Revenue Hub Professional or Enterprise features. Users with only a Core Seat get view-only access to quotes.
Partner Seat. Free for eligible HubSpot Solutions Partner employees working in your account, with access to all its features. If a partner handles your onboarding, they don't need one of your paid seats.
The rule that raises your seat bill: highest edition wins
If you own hubs at different editions, all your Core Seats are priced at your highest edition. HubSpot's catalog states this directly. Buy Marketing Hub Professional and add Sales Hub Enterprise, and every extra Core Seat moves from the Professional price to the Enterprise price. Those users also get Enterprise-level access, whether they need it or not.
This is the most common seat surprise. One Enterprise hub bought for one team changes the price of seats for everyone.
Adding and removing seats
- Adding seats is possible at any time, at your current tier price, and is billed straight away.
- Removing seats doesn't reduce your current invoice. The change takes effect at your next renewal.
- You can't go below your minimum commitment. The seat count in your contract is the floor for the whole term.
So the seat count you sign is a commitment for the full term. Start with the seats you need now and add more as people join. Seats also decide who can spend HubSpot credits: only paid and partner seats can.
Three worked examples
Monthly list prices, paid annually. Price your own team in the pricing calculator.
Sales team of 8 reps and 2 managers, plus 4 executives who read dashboards. On Sales Hub Professional, 10 Sales Seats cost $900 a month. The executives get View-only Seats for free. Giving them paid seats "just in case" would add $360 a month, $4,320 a year.
Marketing team of 5 on Marketing Hub Professional. 3 Core Seats are included. 2 extra Core Seats at $45 bring the total to $890 a month.
Same marketing team, plus Sales Hub Enterprise for the sales team. The 2 extra Core Seats are now priced from $75 instead of $45, because Enterprise is your highest edition. That's $60 a month more for the same two marketers, and every extra Core Seat you add later costs the Enterprise price too.
What to ask your HubSpot rep
- Which users actually need a paid seat, and which can use View-only?
- Which of our users need Sales or Service tools, and which only need Core access?
- If we add an Enterprise hub later, what will our existing Core Seats cost?
- What is our minimum seat commitment for this term?
- Can we add seats mid-term at the same price per seat we're signing at now?
- Are we on the current seats model or legacy pricing (before March 2024)?
